whitetail deer running through Minnesota prairie in October
from flickr user w. dearborn
A whitetail deer bounding through a golden expanse of prairie is just one of those scenes that not only screams October, as deer bed down before hunting season and feast on ripe corn, but also screams Minnesota in general. It's an action photo and a landscape photo which happens to combine two of my favorite types of photos. There are probably dozens of photos which others may feel are more deserving of being called the best of October but this captures the essence of October in Minnesota.

Taken at TOuch the Sky Prairie, the clouds are perfectly reflected in this picturesque pon framed by a stand of prairie grass.

Fence
from flickr user SMR Labs
Taken at one of Minnesota's many State Parks, the sun sets across a stretch of prairie reigned in by a fence. Soak it in as fall doesn't last forever.

Hills near New Trier & Miesville, MN from flickr user novice09
The photographer says: Not all of the prairie is flat. Here is a section of Hwy 50 between New Trier, MN and Meisville, MN with some pretty good hills. And this section really drifts in the winter too. A thru the windshield shot with just a bit of "dusk" treatment and a little of my brown smoke texture.
