High water - Minnesota farm
from flickr user Paul Presnail
Never-ending rain, frozen ground and snow which refuses to melt are just a few of the problems plaguing Minnesota farmers as they prepare to begin planting crops for the 2014 growing season. With many areas of Minnesota receiving 3+ inches of rain this week coupled with abnormally cool temperatures, the planting season figures to be late and stressful much like last year.

Lake Superior slowly thaws
from flickr user Karen Ramsdale
While the days of snow blanketing the landscape are hopefully behind us for a few months, this scene from the shores of Lake Superior seems to be a study in the contrast of seasons. Open and frigid water in stark contrast to thick blanket of snow on the rugged and rocky banks of the greatest of the Great Lakes.

Best of MinnPics - May 2013
from flickr user karenmeyere
Photographed as the green of spring was in full force, this still red barn near Zimmerman' MN has been slowly falling into the nearby wetlands for many years. Built to close to a small pond whose water levels have been rising over the years, this barn will someday crumble into the nearby water but until then it makes for a rather unique roadside attraction.

Power lines hanging in the streets - Rochester, MN
from flickr user cursedthing
Following a freak early May snowstorm across southeastern Minnesota, thousands awoke to find themselves without electricity and see trees bent close to breaking or already snapped and on the ground. Owatonna reported a whopping 13" of heavy and wet snow which resulted in closed schools in that corner of Minnesota.

Puddle Reflection - Gooseberry Falls
from flickr user Valley Man Photography
Soon enough it will happen. The grass and trees will turn green. The consistently gray skies will break in favor of blue skies dotted with fair weather clouds and the endless winter will end and take with it the snow and puddles like this one will appear -- even in the northern reaches of Minnesota like this photo of Gooseberry Falls.
Prints of this photo are available for purchase at Valley Man Photography.

Round Lake, Eden Prairie, MN
from flickr user Oakesjohn
A spectacular fish eye photo taken yesterday on the dock approaching Round Lake in the southwestern Minneapolis suburb of Eden Prairie, MN. The brilliant blue of the sky against the sprinkling of green in the grass and algae paired with the mirroring of shaped (sky and dock) make for an almost perfect capture during our extended preview of Spring.
