With traffic streaking through the darkened streets of eastern downtown Minneapolis, the recently opened U.S. Bank Stadium has its roof lit up in purple which adds an interesting element to the lit skyline of Minnesota's largest city.

Supermoon over Minneapolis

from flickr user Michael Raleigh
One of the most striking images of the recent supermoon – the largest in decades – over the Minneapolis skyline. The lighting in this photo is superb, the focus is sharp as a tack and the composition is amazing.

Grain Belt Beer Sign

from flickr user Robb Henry
It's been photographed by thousands of people but every photo of the iconic Grain Belt Beer sign has different qualities and has its own unique personality. This one, taken from alongside the Hennepin Avenue bridge in Minneapolis on Nicollet Island captures the ripples in the Mississippi River and the trees on the banks awash in vibrant autumn color.

Ghostly Gold Medal Flour

from flickr user SPP Photography
Taken against a particularly dark night sky, this recent photo go the iconic Gold Medal Flour sing in Minneapolis looks rather haunting and ghostly which fits well with the tone of October itself.

Boom Island Lighthouse - Minneapolis, MN

from flickr user Lake Vermillion1
The picturesque Boom Island Lighthouse on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis – seen here as nightfall takes over the Mill City. The ice on the river serves an a nice accent in this photo as it captures bits and pieces of reflections of the adjacent skyscrapers and office towers.

Bridge Over Lake Calhoun Minneapolis

from flickr user M Hyatt
The graceful curves of the bridge's arch and the trail beneath it coupled with the straight lines of the bridge's stone and concrete make for a very geometrically pleasing photo – especially in black and white. Do yourself a favor as the weather warms up this week and get out on the many trails the state of Minnesota has to offer and, time permitting, check out this picturesque bridge and trail combo near Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis.

Hawaiian Airlines; Bloomington, MN

from flickr user Nick Benson
It's not everyday that you see a Hawaiian Airlines jet in Minnesota but, like this one, they do occasionally come to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for maintenance as is the case with this A330-200.

U.S. Bank Minnesota Vikings Stadium - Minneapolis, MN

from flickr user chuck j
The new Minnesota Vikings stadium, deemed U.S. Bank Stadium, is fast approaching completion on its towering and sharply angular exterior facade. While its design is definitely different from other stadiums and it stands out in downtown Minneapolis, it seems somewhat out of place in a city where the design aesthetic seems to have at least some level of conformity.

Modest Mouse / Rock the Garden 2015 - Minneapolis, MN

from flickr user Seth McGaha
Modest Mouse - who gained mass exposure with the mid-2000s hit 'Float On' - headlined 89.3 The Current and Walker Art Center's Rock The Garden festival on Sunday evening. With a modest resurgence in the popularity of Modest Mouse, fans apparently got a decent mix of underground / rising artists and seasoned veterans of the indie music scene.

Northern Lights - Scott County, MN

from Twitter user @Overnights_at_9
While it's not entirely impossible for the Northern Lights to be seen during the summer months in Minnesota, it's is rare for the Aurora Borealis to be seen this far south in late June. This photo - taken southwest of Minneapolis in rural Scott County - depicts a vibrant show overnight in a serene countryside setting.

Inside the new Minnesota Vikings stadium
from Gawker Media / Deadspin
During an illicit tour of the too-easy-to-access Minnesota Vikings stadium in downtown Minneapolis, a New York-based writer and photographer went where no member of the general public will ever go -- on a self-guided tour of the under-construction ballpark.
Towering steel and looming cranes occupy the space inside this small city which will seat tens of thousands of football fans just over a year from now. Check out the Deadspin story to see more photos.

Downtown Minneapolis panorama

from flickr user Megan Johnston
The one thing that stands out most to me about this pink-hued early evening panorama of downtown Minneapolis -- taken from the banks of the Mississippi River -- are the number of construction cranes visible. With office towers, apartment building and the new Vikings stadium filling in pieces of the ever-changing skyline, Minneapolis is definitely on the grow.

Taken in Minneapolis, this bald eagle is the proud mother of two eaglets. If you ever get the chance to see a bald eagle up close, be sure to capture a photo because the majestic nature of these birds is something to treasure.

Best of MinnPics - February 2014

from flickr user alleyraven
A wintry scene near St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis earns the title of Best of MinnPics 2014 for February. Capturing the sometimes overlooked beauty of our long winters in Minnesota, the photographer was in the right place after what appears to be a light snowfall which left the tree branches coated in a light frosting of snow and the meandering strip of nearly black water contrasts so vividly with the crisp and clean snow that it's hard to believe such serenity exists within the boundaries of Minneapolis.
