U.S. Bank Minnesota Vikings Stadium - Minneapolis, MN

Stadium construction progress - August 2, 2015
from flickr user chuck j
The new Minnesota Vikings stadium, deemed U.S. Bank Stadium, is fast approaching completion on its towering and sharply angular exterior facade. While its design is definitely different from other stadiums and it stands out in downtown Minneapolis, it seems somewhat out of place in a city where the design aesthetic seems to have at least some level of conformity.

Saying goodbye to another Minnesota summer

| Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Summer in Minnesota has officially drawn to a close. This summer we saw record-setting floods in June, the Major League Baseball All Star Game played at Target Field in July, the Minnesota Vikings return to an outdoor stadium in August and the final day of the Minnesota State Fair in September which ended in record attendance. Of course there were plenty of other photo-worthy moments throughout the summer months and some of those captivating scenes are showcased below...

Superbowl 52 stadium - Minneapolis, MN
from flickr user Michael Hicks
It was announced minutes ago the Minnesota would host Superbowl 52 in 2018. The stadium, on the former site of the Metrodome, is still under construction but here is what the new Minnesota Vikings stadium looks like at this moment. Can you envision the Green Bay Packers playing the Buffalo Bills there in early February of 2018?

The Metrodome has been deflated

| Monday, January 20, 2014

It happened Saturday morning and this time it was intentional. The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis -- once the home of the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Golden Gophers football and the current home of the Minnesota Vikings -- had the power shut off and the doors opened, allowing the giant Teflon roof to deflate and demolition crews to begin slicing off huge squares of the fabric.

Check out the photos below of the sad, utilitarian stadium and how out of place it looks -- especially now -- with its days numbered.

TCF Bank Minnesota Gophers football stadium

TCF Bank Stadium, home to the Gophers football team at the University of Minnesota, was awarded LEED Silver Certification in time for kickoff on September 12, 2009. At that time, TCF Bank Stadium became the first LEED certified collegiate or professional football facility in the country.
The stadium boasts a storm water management system that allows rain water to be captured, filtered and drained into the Mississippi River. A reflective roof reduces heat island effect. The use of potable water for landscape irrigation was reduced 50 percent.
